The Beacons Run is sponsored by the Swansea MG Enthusiasts Club and is in aid of the Welsh Dragons Burns Club who look after children who are patients at the Burns Unit in Morriston Hospital, Swansea.

Around 90 entrants gathered at Pont Abraham (at the western end of the M4) and initially the weather was fine and we had high hopes of it continuing. It was slightly disappointing that only eight of the Swansea Enthusiast Club members took part.

At 10 am cars started leaving and headed towards the "lunch" stop on the outward leg, which turned out to be Cardigan - a distance of 57 miles. After a couple of miles it clouded over and the sun disappeared for the rest of the day.

Passing the National Botanic Garden of Wales on the B3410 we soon reached Nantgaredig, where we turned left at the crossroads and  headed for the A484 - the Cardigan road. The route took us towards Conwyl Elfed, where the B4333 led us through Hermon to the B4299. Some of these B roads were twisty and narrow! Short legs on the A478, and the B4332 soon had us arriving at the A487 and finally Cardigan itself - and lunch.

After this respite we re-joined the A484 and using the B4570, B4333, B4571, B4342 and A485 where we diverted to view the Llyn Brianne Reservoir and Dam. The views along the mountain road were spectacular and were well worth the diversion.

Returning to the planned route we finally joined the A40 and arrived at the Castle Hotel, Llandovery for a coffee (or maybe something stronger) to finish the day.
